Archie was an owned cat. He was left at SHAID, after 9 years with his family, when they moved. It never ceases to amaze us that "Moving" seems to so many people an excuse to abandon their companion animals. Archie is not old for a cat. He has an exceptional personality. He purrs up a storm and adores being petted. He is white, with tabby markings and long hair. He is a perfect pet. A volunteer has taken Archie in as a foster cat for a short period as he was simply becoming fed up with shelter life. He was not eating well, and seemed depressed. In his foster home he has bloomed. Archie needs a responsible home.
Two beautiful young rabbits were wandering loose in a neighbourhood and have found their way to SHAID. One is blond the other black and white.
We have a beautiful blond puppy about 7 to 8 months and 50 ish lbs...tall and leggy. Our sweet Emily is still waiting to be picked. She is a great dog. A real sweetheart. Emily is brindle and looks as if she may be a boxer mix. Toby is a black and tan mixed breed about 2 1/2 years. He is very smart. Once he realizes you will not allow him to be top dog, he sits, downs and will heel off lead. Simon is a black shepherd type without an aggressive bone in his body. He is 2 to 3 years old. Simon likes to hang out with other dogs, but is not playful with them.
We have every colour of kitten imaginable. Please help with this overpopulation crisis. We need loving responsible homes for these babies.

When two cats are better than just one...

SHAID is full to the brim with wonderful, loving cats and many great dogs are also available.
We need your help. We need volunteers to run errands, to handle minor repairs, to do yardwork and shovel walkways. We need people to groom and train dogs (you do not have to be an experienced trainer). We need people to foster the sick and the young. When volunteers can give a morning to clean cat cages, the staff can get their other work caught up. Because of the need to control disease, you cannot go from cat to cat to socialize but you can drop in and groom one cat - clipping his claws, combing him and cleaning his ears. We need people to help with computer work (newsletter) and accounting. Also we would like to have a retired teacher available who is well aware of animal issues to offer humane education to schools.
If you would like to help in any of the above mentioned ways or in any other way you can think of, please contact the shelter. We will be happy to hear from you!
It's even easier now to donate to SHAID using your credit card securely online thanks to a partnership with Canada Helps, a non-profit group dedicated to assisting Canadian non-profits to raise funds. Just click on the button below.

You will receive a tax receipt (sent to your e-mail) which you can print out and send in to CCRA (Revenue Canada) with your income tax. Simple and almost painless! Try it. We hope that many of you will consider this convenient method to send your favourite charity (that would be us!) donations.
As you may know, each year we obtain some of our raffle prizes from our accumulated Club Z points from Zellers. This has meant that 100% of the proceeds from the raffle went directly to the animals. To donate your points to SHAID, you will need to complete a "Supporting Member Donation Form" available from SHAID or from Zellers Customer Service and drop it off to them. SHAID's Public ID Number which you will need to put on the form is 1005580 and the Community Organization Name should read "SHAID Tree Shelter Society" . You can donate all or a percentage of your points by indicating same on the form. Then , once this is processed, you just use your own HBC Rewards card and no longer need the Keytag. One less thing to carry around!!!!!
You can also register online at www.hbc.ca
An enterprising staff member has created SHAID keychains for us from the "Gratitude" stones we had for sale at the shelter. Each keychain is $5.00 and all proceeds go to the animals. Drop by and be the first in your group to own one! Great for gifts too.
Is your cat/kitten scratching up your furniture? Your little treasure probably needs a scratching post on which to sharpen its claws. Guess what? We have handsome scratch posts for sale at the shelter for just $15! They come with a swinging catnip treat attached. Drop by the shelter to buy one of these "save the furniture" items. All proceeds to the animals of course as they are made by a long time volunteer.

Our complete adoption policies can be read on our sister site.>For our complete adoption policies, click here.
Our doors are open to all homeless and abandoned animals. Owned animals are admitted only if there is room.
We now have an adoption application form that you fill out prior to adoption and you must be approved before you can adopt one of our animals.
Please note: we do NOT do long distance adoptions over the Internet. We feel the best possible match requires the prospective owner meeting with the animal at the shelter. It is sometimes even necessary to visit more than once to allow the animal to become comfortable with you before taking him or her home. So if you see one of our critters on this site and fall in love, please make arrangements to come and meet them.
To become a SHAID member or to renew your membership, click here and locate the form on the left hand side.
Membership is only $10 annually and it adds your voice to those who speak up for the needs of animals who cannot speak for themselves and this includes the cost of sending you our quarterly newsletter so you will know about everything that is happening here at SHAID!
If you prefer, call or e-mail the shelter and they will gladly send you a membership brochure which you can read and return with your $10 at your convenience. Tell them you saw it on this site!
There are many ways to get even more involved with helping our critters from cleaning out cat cages to walking and grooming the dogs or cats to just visiting them - they love to see people and love the attention. You can volunteer to help with fundraisers or drop off supplies needed constantly by the shelter. We welcome and invite you to help at whatever level suits you best and we thank you sincerely for your concern.
